BUSHFIRE RESISTANT HOMES

After the devastating loss of human life and property caused by the recent Victorian bush fires. Planning for fire resistant homes with a safe area to shelter the occupants has become crucial for homes located in the slightest bush fire prone areas. Storm Resistant Homes

Building a new home may be one of the biggest investment we make, not only financially but also emotionally. We want value for money, an energy efficient design, and a strong resilient home that performs well no matter what natural phenomenon comes our way.

The warnings of global warming and the extreme weather conditions we have occasionally been experiencing in Australia recently, has made choosing a home design more important than ever in the past.

Circular homes do have a strength advantage even before construction methods are introduced to make them one of the strongest and resilient homes available.

New homes more than ever need to be designed for extremely strong wind, driving rain, hail, flood water and bushfire depending on your location and even that may not be guaranteed due to global warming.

People who have an understanding about energy will know that a circular home is similar to an egg. The strength comes for the shape and the distribution of energy. Storms and Bushfires are extremely strong energy fronts that a house needs to resist against. A circular home has less external wall resistance to the energy front and a stronger central mass than a square or rectangular home.

Circular Energy Homes are continually improving the strength of their homes as new materials become available.

To list just some of the construction features–

* Our Elevated designs are built on a reinforced concrete slab with the steel reinforcing continued up through the centre of the external wall open core block work. The block work is then filled with concrete block fill. The carport area is supported with laminated beams bolted to galvanised steel columns. The columns are bolted with cyclone bolts to the reinforced slab.

* Single storey designs are built on a reinforced concrete slab or a Duragal steel pier and sub-floor system. The piers are bolted to a footing pad and then concrete filled to ground level.

* The pre-assembled timber walls are totally covered with bracing ply which is also fixed to the floor beams and tie the entire walls and floor together.

* Decks and deck roof are constructed with laminated beams and metal brackets to fix the floor joist and rafters to the beams. Support posts are bolted to the deck beam and roof beam.

A lot of thought about the effect of extremely high winds and heavy rain have determined our external finishing methods.
